About the Artist
Rufus Moody born in 1923 and passed away in 1998 at the age of 75, comes from a family of Argillite and Jewellery carves. Trained by his father, Arthur Moody, who was the son of the earlist agrillite carvers, Thomas Moody. He was part of the Tanu Wolf Clan.
Rufus received the Order of Canada in 1976 for his role as an established argillite carver and teacher of the Arts. Rufus is known for producing the tallest argillite pole in the world, which stands 6-feet tall and is display at the Vancouver's Museum of Anthroplogy.
Glen Pollard was born in 1957 in Haida Gwaiii as part of the Tany Eagle Clan.
Glen was self-taught carver at the age of 16 and has now been a successful carver for over 50+ years. He is most known for his inlay work and creating small totem poles,pendants and sculptures.
Shirley is the sister to Glen Pollard and focuses on the traditional style of Argillite carving of North West Coast totem themes.
Bernard first started carving in silver and gold jewellery in 1980, which he learned from his uncle. Bernard does all his crvings using a hand-engraver rather than a power engraver as some carvers do. He has since become a successful carver of two and three-dimensional sculptures for both Argillite and jewellery.
Tom was born in 1925 and us one of the most well known argillite carvers as well as teachers in British Columbia. His artwork is mostly of Haida legends and myths.
